Episode Notes

I’m going to make a statement which is how I try to live my life. That statement is:

Be thankful in all circumstances.

Paul the Apostle (NLT)

It’s easy to say but not always easy to do.

Throughout my life, I’ve made money and lost money, built businesses and lost businesses. I’ve formed great relationships and had relationships dissolve. I’ve been married, divorced and married again. So, I’ve had a fair bit of experience of the ups and the downs. Even through all of that I still do my best to be thankful in all circumstances.

Just recently we had an opportunity to test whether being thankful in all circumstances was actually possible. Let’s see how we did…

Stranded

We just arrived at Stari Grad on the island having travelled on the ferry for two hours. We didn’t realise the ferry had stopped so we were the last ones off.

1:05 Kerry

By a long while.

1:08 Stephen

The bus to Vrboska has gone there’s no one here and we have a two hour walk ahead of us.

1:15 Kerry

There’s no taxi.

The Adventure Begins

1:17 Stephen

It’s 10:30 at night. Actually, at least it’s not two hours – it’s only one hour 47 minutes so it’s not so bad.

1:28 Kerry

We did 10ks the other night so eight in comparison’s nothing, right?

1:36 Stephen

That’s right.

We came up this path because it was going to be three minutes quicker but it quickly turned from a made smooth path to rocks and gravel. It’s so good that we bought the scooter this weekend and that Ana gave us a trolley. It’s making it so much easier

2:09 Kerry

It’s not an electric one though. I actually have to work, but it’s still fun.

2:14 Stephen

You can rest.

2:16 Kerry

Yeah it’s fun. I like the downhills better than the uphills. Stephen the trolley man – yay wait for me.

2:33 Stephen

It’s 25 minutes since we got off the ferry. We went up one way and now we’re back at the ferry because it was just not going to work. So, we get to start again and explore a different part of the journey.

2:47 Kerry

I was just saying I think it’s really great that we’re both quite positive people because otherwise you’d be in this situation and you think what the heck and we’re just like, oh well, we’ll problem solve how we work this out – yay.

3:01 Stephen

When we left we had one hour 47 minutes to get home of walking. We walked for 25 minutes and found that way it wasn’t going to be any good so we’re back to the beginning. Now we have one hour 47 minutes to go till we get home. Fortunately, even though it’s dark at least it’s mainly a straight run and we can walk against the traffic.

3:27 Kerry

The traffic?

3:28 Stephen

There is no traffic because everyone’s in bed because they all caught the bus.

3:35 Kerry

On the thankfulness journey I’m very thankful because I really needed to go and look what I found – clean, even has toilet paper. So I’m thankful.

On another note, I’ve also got my mask on and it keeps my face warm. That’s fabulous on a cold night.

3:52 Stephen

Isn’t this wonderful?

We’re 13 minutes into the journey. We’re on the top of a hill just looking out over the town of Stari Grad and looking forward to an hour and a half walking through the countryside with nothing but starlight.

4:10 Kerry

We do have water so that’s good.

4:13 Stephen

We do all right here’s another sign. Have we taken any wrong turns?

4:20 Kerry

Nope.

4:21 Stephen

All right, just stopped for a quick drink. 59 minutes to go and the church at Dol is still there, just off to the right. Oh Vrboska – two kilometres. We just came up over a hill and it should be all downhill from here.

She’s off, scootering away. Some people sail around Croatia, some bus around Croatia and some even ride bikes around Croatia. We scooter, on our scooters.

All right, just had to get off the side of the road because there was a car coming. So we pulled off the side of the road and had a slight accident.

5:44 Kerry

It’s okay. I was just trying to get off the road for a car and I tripped up the gutter.

5:48 Stephen

Yeah, well nearly home.

So this is ACI Marina, center – that’s us. Camp nudist. We’re back. That’s a little church and this is the bus stop where we would’ve been dropped off. Home is just a few steps away.

6:38 Kerry

We bought the scooter this weekend and we wanted to give it a try didn’t we?

6:43 Stephen

Certainly did.

7:00 Kerry

Home.

7:11 Stephen

We’re home. It’s 1am so it took 2 and a half hours but that did include 20 minutes going the wrong way.

So there’s the injury.

7:28 Kerry

I’m ready to snuggle into our bed. It’s nice to be home.

This is how it’s supposed to happen. The ferry comes in and when we get off we get on this bus. That’s the ferry from Split. It’s called Zadar. Glad we don’t have to park a boat that size. Those that are catching the bus will come across and jump on.

8:52 Stephen
